He was instrumental in the forming and running of the Westlakes School Boys Rugby League Competition which started junior rugby league in the area. All junior football was played at Number One Sports Ground, now called Lyle Peacock Oval.
In 1965 the club moved to League Park in Toronto West which was near Toronto Cemetery. Keith then started looking for a larger area for the Club. He applied and was granted land from the State Government in Toronto West which was officially opened in 1970. It was named after him due to his work in Junior Football in the area.
Early in 1954 the seniors, then called Toronto Rugby League Club entered the Central Coast Competition. As their colours were Red and Blue, they had to change their colours to avoiding clashing with another team. So it was decided on Green and Gold as this was Toronto Public School colours.

Our Club was formerly known as the Grasshoppers. The U8's never wore shoes, and because the ground was covered in frost, the juniors would run out jumping, which is where the name grasshoppers came from. It took years to convince the governing body of Juniors footy boots were allowed to be purchased. It was in 1963 when the name was changed to Macquarie United Juniors following the senior club,
The Club started off with two teams, U10's coached by Les Field (Life Member) and U12's coached by Keith Barry (Life Member). Both sides went on to major premiers in the Westlakes area.

As rugby league increased in popularity in Toronto, a boundary had to be formed between Toronto and Toronto West (William Street being the middle). Children from Blackalls Park also joined the Toronto West side. Toronto West needed a home ground, which is why League Park was formed. Then in 1974-1975 saw a further increase in numbers, which Macquarie United Sub-Junior Club separated from the Juniors. With the Sub Juniors running from U7's-U14's. This is why our name is Macquarie United Sub Junior Rugby League Club.
Earthworks begun on the land awarded to Keith Barry at 281a Awaba road Toronto, NSW. An Airforce hut from Rathmines was delivered which was used as the clubhouse, canteen and change rooms. The pipe fencing was constructed (which is still there today) and the hill was formed on the northern side to improve viewing of games. Years later a second field was required and was created between the main field and stoney creek. In 2000 the mini field next to the clubhouse was formed and put into use.
